Natural Cycle IVF

1.Monitoring the Cycle
The first step involves tracking the woman’s natural menstrual cycle through blood tests and ultrasounds to pinpoint the exact timing of ovulation.
2.Egg Retrieval
Once the lead follicle is ready, a trigger shot (often a small dose of hCG) may be administered to ensure the final maturation of the egg. Approximately 36 hours later, the egg is retrieved using a minimally invasive procedure under mild sedation.
3.Fertilization
The retrieved egg is then fertilized with the partner’s or donor’s sperm in the laboratory. In some cases, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be used to facilitate fertilization.
4.Embryo Development
The fertilized egg (now an embryo) is monitored for a few days as it begins to grow and divide.
5.Embryo Transfer
If the embryo develops successfully, it is transferred into the woman’s uterus. This step is usually done without the need for anesthesia and is similar to a Pap smear.
6. Pregnancy Test
About two weeks after the embryo transfer, a blood test is conducted to determine if the treatment has resulted in pregnancy.
Advantages of Natural Cycle IVF
Natural Cycle IVF offers several benefits that make it an appealing option for many women:
- Reduced Medication Use: By minimizing the use of fertility drugs, Natural Cycle IVF reduces the risk of side effects and long-term health concerns associated with high-dose hormone treatments.
- Lower Cost: The reduced need for medication and fewer clinic visits can make Natural Cycle IVF a more cost-effective option compared to conventional IVF.
- Natural Selection of Eggs: The process relies on the body’s natural selection of the best-quality egg, potentially leading to higher-quality embryos.
- Less Invasive: The natural approach means fewer injections, less discomfort, and a lower risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).
- Psychological Comfort: For many women, the gentler approach of Natural Cycle IVF can result in less emotional stress, making the journey to parenthood a more positive experience.
- Ethical and Religious Considerations: Some couples prefer Natural Cycle IVF for ethical or religious reasons, as it often results in fewer surplus embryos.
